I ask Daddy please, can we get some of these?

The Cupboard

I know a little cupboard with a teeny tiny key
And there's a jar of lollypops, for me, me, me
It has a little shelf my dear, as dark as dark can be
And there's a dish of banberry cakes, for me, me, me
I have a small fat grand-ma-ma, with a very slippery knee
And she's keeper of the cupboard with the key, key, key
And when i'm very good my dear, as good as good can be
There's banberry cakes and lollypops, for me, me, me!



Animal Crackers and Cocoa

Animal crakers and cocoa to drink
That is the finest of suppers i think
When i'm grown up and can have what i please
I think i shall always insist upon these
What do YOU choose when you're offered a treat?
When mother says, What would you like best to eat?
Is it waffles and syrup, or cinnamon toast?
It's cocoa and animals that i love the most!
The kitchen's the coziest place that I know
The kettle is singing, the stove is aglow
And there in the twilight, how jolly to see
The cocoa and animals waiting for me!
Daddy and Mother dine later in state
With Mary to cook for them, Susan to wait
But they don't have nearly as much fun as I,
Who eat in the kitchen with nurse standing by
And Daddy once said, he would like to be me
Having cocoa and animals once more for tea!



Once Mother said, My litle pet
You ought to learn your alphabet
So in my soup I used to get
All the letters of the alphabet
I learned them all from A to Z
And now my Mother's giving me-
Animal crackers in my soup
Monkeys and rabbits loop da loop
Gosh oh gee but I have fun
Swallowing animals one by one
In every bowl of soup I see
Lions and Tigers watching me
I make 'em jump right through a hoop
Those animal crackers in my soup!



Have you ever heard of the Sugar Plum Tree?
'Tis a marvel of great renown!
It blooms on the shore of the Lollypop Sea
In the garden of Shut-Eye Town
The fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet
(As those who have tasted it say)
That good little children have only to eat Of that fruit to be happy next day.
When you've got to the tree, you would have a hard time
To capture the fruit which I sing
The tree is so tall that no person could climb
To the boughs where the sugar-plums swing!
But up in that tree sits a chocolate cat
And a ginger bread dog prowls below
And this is the way you contrive to get at
Those sugar-plums tempting you so-
You say but the word to that gingerbread dog
And he barks with such a terrible zest
That the chocolate cat is at once all agog
As her swelling proportions attest
And the chocolate cat goes covorting around
From this leafy limb unto that
And the sugar-plums tumble, of course, to the ground-
Hurray for that chocolate cat!
There are marshmallows, gumdrops, and peppermint canes
With striping of scarlet and gold
And you carry away of the treasure that rains
As much as your apron can hold!
So come, little child, cuddle closer to me
In your dainty white nightcap and gown
And I'll rock you away to the Sugar Plum Tree
In the garden of Shut-Eye Town.



Grandpa Dropped His Glasses

Grandpa dropped his glasses, in a pot of dye
And when he put them on again, he saw a purple sky!
Purple fires were rising up, from a purple hill
Men were grinding purple cider, at a purple mill
Purple Adeline was playing, with a purple doll
Little purple dragon flies, were crawling up the wall
And at the supper table, he got crazy as a loon
From eating purple apple dumplings, with a purple spoon!

Escape at Bedtime

The Fly Away Horse

Oh, a wonderful horse is the Fly-Away Horse, perhaps you have seen him before
Perhaps, While you slept, his shadow has swept thru the moonlight that floats on the floor
For it's only at night, when the stars twinkle bright, that the Fly-Away Horse, with a neigh
And a pull at his rein and a toss of his mane is up on his heels and away!
The Moon in the sky, as he gallopeth by cries, "Oh! what a marvellous sight!"
And the Stars in dismay, hide their faces away, in the lap of old Grandmother Night
It is yonder, out yonder, the Fly-Away Horse, speedeth ever and ever away
Over meadows and lanes, over mountains and plains, over streamlets that sing at their play
And over the seal like a ghost sweepeth he, while the ships they go sailing below
And he speedeth so fast that the men at the mast, adjudge him some portent of woe
"What ho there!" they cry, As he flourishes by, with a whisk of his beautiful tail
And the fish in the sea, are as scared as can be
From the nautilus up to the whale!
And the Fly-Away Horse seeks those far-away lands, you little folk dream of at night
Where candy-trees grow, and honey-brooks flow, and corn-fields with popcorn are white
And the beasts in the wood are ever so good, to children who visit them there
What glory astride of a lion to ride, or to wrestle around with a bear!
